R&RNAV have installed a prototype eLORAN reference receiver at Dungeness Lighthouse. In time this may enable the site to act as a Differential-eLoran reference station covering the Dover Straits and parts of the English Channel.

The GLAs Differential GPS (DGPS) service allows much more accurate GPS positioning by publishing corrections to the satellite's broadcast signals. DLoran works in much the same way and is essential to achieve the high accuracy requirements for mariners navigating the busy waters of the Dover Straits.
